The ability to reason, to think abstractly, to formulate ideas, to acquire knowledge and to implement them effectively is a manifestation of the natural intelligence of man, which distinguishes him from the animal world (Gen. 2: 19). The rapid scientific and technological development in the middle of the XX century marked the problem of “artificial machines” for mankind. In 1956, Dartmouth College in Hampshire (UK) held the
first scientific conference dedicated to the issue of artificial intelligence. During the meeting, many researchers were inspired to implement projects related to the modeling of the human mind. Among them Claude Shannon, Marvin Minsky and John McCarthy, who laid the foundation for the creation of future «artificial» machines with the ability to imitate or duplicate the functions of the human brain (the ability to reason, plan, solve practical problems, etc.). On the way to the development of artificial intelligence technologies, supporters and followers of their ideas, eloquently defending “the possibilities of machine immortality and resurrection”, look forward to the reign of a virtual world that can replace a person in various spheres of life. The author of the article in general
aims to dispel such myths and show the advantages of natural thinking over artificial thinking through the prism of Holy Scripture and patristic tradition.
