Using the example of the handwritten lives of the monks Nikita Pereslavsky and Savva ViUsing the example of the handwritten lives of the monks Nikita Pereslavsky and Savva Vishersky, the article examines a rare feat of stylites in Russia. The lives are kept in the Department of Manuscripts of the Russian State Library. This paper proposes a geographical classification of the Eastern stylites and expands their list. An analysis of the lives of the Russian pillars showed the exceptional asceticism of the deeds of these saints, who, in the harsh climate, were standing on the pillar for a long time. It is established that the Russian “stolpnichestvo” arose in the XII century as an imitation of the feat of the eastern pillars, which by this time had already ceased in the East.
